The Shape of the Rule

An equal turn is a rule's form; whether it serves the rule's purpose is a separate question.

At night in a garden pavilion, five people of different ages sit in a circle on a patterned carpet around a small brass sand timer. A young woman holds up a folded letter and reads it aloud while the others listen.

A painting in the Persian miniature tradition of five people seated in a circle on a carpet in a lantern-lit garden pavilion at night, around a small sand timer, while one reads aloud from a folded letter. Turquoise lettering in the deep lapis sky reads: Same turn for everyone. Is that the point of the rule, or just its shape?
