What Still Stands

A correction can change one part of a plan without handing over the whole judgment.

At dusk on terraced paddy fields, a middle-aged farmer in rolled trousers kneels on a raised bank and lifts one wooden sluice board, letting water from the channel above spill down into a lower plot of pale, cracked soil. A younger neighbour stands beside them, pointing out across the fields. The other boards stay shut, and the plots on either side already hold water.

A watercolour and ink painting on mulberry paper of terraced paddy fields at dusk. A kneeling farmer on a raised channel bank lifts one wooden sluice board, letting water spill down into the single dry, cracked plot among water-filled ones, while a younger neighbour beside them points out across the fields. Deep ink-brown lettering in the pale celadon sky reads: That fact changes my plan. Which part does it change, and what still stands?
